“The Flute of Shame” - punishment for bad musicianship:
The “flute of shame” is a medieval contraption inflicted upon bad musicians at a time when public humiliation was a ruler’s means of invoking fear in the people he controlled. Not only was it imposed upon displeasing musicians, but public performers in general who were deemed lewd, offensive, or bothersome. The device would be fitted around the subjects neck, with the fingers clamped tightly along the flute, where it could remain for days. (via Mark Wein)

Coming to a carpool lane near you. This was quite the elaborate son of a bitch schemer. The rear passenger windows were tinted opaque black. I know if I wore a Metropolitan Museum of Art cap backward I’m pretty sure nobody would ever fuck with me.
